چکیده

ownload ll populations within an increasing array of solid tumors, labeled cancer stem cells (CSC) or tumoring cells (TIC), have the ability to differentiate, self-renew, and replicate the original tumor in vivo. To hese cells have been distinguished from the bulk-tumor population by the expression pattern of celle proteins (e.g., CD24, CD44, CD133) and cellular activities, such as the efflux of Hoechst dye or aldedehydrogenase activity. Recent data have shown that these markers are inducible by exposure to ncer agents; this finding highlights not only the potential fluidity of the CSC compartment, but also nctionality of these markers. The involvement of CD44 in invasion, adhesion, and metastasis, or the f CD24 in modulation of src, FAK, and GLI1 are examples of these relevant roles. Instead of looking at the marker expression in these populations, we hope to clarify the biologically significant roles these solely markers and activities play in tumor progression, metastases, and as possible targets for therapy. Prognostic molecular markers in hepatocellular carcinoma (Review article

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the 5th commonest malignancy worldwide and is the third most common cause of cancer-related death. The prevalence is different in the world. The ability to predict patients at higher risk of recurrence and with a poor prognosis would help to guide surgical and chemotherapeutic treatment according to individual risk. As understanding of hepatocarcinogenesi...

MicroRNAs as biomarkers associated with bladder cancer

Bladder cancer is the fifth most common cancer with significant morbidity and mortality. Recently, numerous studies demonstrated that microRNAs are emerging as diagnostic biomarkers for bladder cancer. Specific miRNA profiles have been identified for several samples from patients with bladder cancer. MicroRNAs are noncoding RNA molecules of approximately 23 nucleotides that play important roles...

p63 is more sensitive and specific than 34βE12 to differentiate adenocarcinoma of prostate from cancer mimickers

Objective(s): Prostate cancer is the world’s leading cause of cancer and the second cause of cancer-related death in men after lung cancer. Differentiation of prostate adenocarcinoma from benign prostate lesions and hyperplasia sometimes cannot be done on the basis of morphologic findings. Considering the fact that in the prostate adenocarcinoma there is no basal cell layer, basal cell markers ...

Nanomedicine – The role of newer drug delivery technologies in cancer

Nanotechnology has slowly but steadily revolutionized the diagnosis, imaging and treatment of cancer. Detecting cancer at earliest stages, locating the tumor at different areas in the body and specific delivery of the drugs to malignant cells including surgically inaccessible tumors are the core areas of medical and pharmaceutical research across the world. In this endeavour, Nanodevices have e...
